So, Playstation Network has been down for a week now, since the 19th. Now, they've come to the conclusion that personal information has (probably) been compromised.
The tl;dr of the story is that if you've provided them your credit card number, it might have been leaked. Also, if you use the same username and password elsewhere, then change them.
THIS IS A GOOD REASON NOT TO USE THE SAME PASSWORD EVERYWHERE. So was the engadget hack. I love password expiration day at work, expecially the arguement, 'but i've had this password for years, and i use the same one for everything!'.
Anyhow. My rant for the night.
didn't know about the credit card risk. :(
ReplyDeleteIts all over the news in Japan when i streamed it through my computer, really scary though, ima go change all my passwords now
ReplyDeleteSounds like the problems for them have just started.
ReplyDeleteAccording to everyone else, credit card info probably hasn't been leaked, so most of us are in the clear on that. I think you might scare some people like that. Anyways, people who are stupid with their passwords deserve what they get, there's no reason not to have a different password for everything, and its not even hard with programs like Keepass.
ReplyDeleteso glad i dont play things like that online xD i dont even have anything above a PS2 xD
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that Sony didn't even let its users know about this until a week after it happened.
ReplyDeleteSony probably just lost another few million customers to xbox lol ;D
ReplyDeleteSomeone broke Sony....and their internet. Ha ha!
ReplyDeletefirst time i'm happy i don't have any sony devices in my house.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I only used card numbers I get off the internet for services like the PSN. You simply can't trust people, otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThis is why you should play PC
ReplyDeleteGlad I dont have a ps3.
ReplyDeleteyeah man, heard all about this on the news this morning, scary stuff !!
ReplyDeleteYes it does, especially since private info has been compromised.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, glad I don't use a PS3.
ReplyDeleteI have xbox 360!!!!!!
ReplyDelete"THIS IS A GOOD REASON NOT TO USE THE SAME PASSWORD EVERYWHERE"
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. People need to understand that.
I'm always wary about giving out my personal information... exhibit A. lol
ReplyDeleteJust got an email from them warning about my credit card. Its not on! :@
ReplyDeleteGreat post, followed!
Even though I know that I need different passwords for everywhere, I still don't haha. I just know that this is a lesson I'm going to have to learn the hard way. Good post, I'm following :)
ReplyDeletemaybe now sony will put a little time into PSN
ReplyDeletefollowing, cool blog
ReplyDeleteYeah, now lemme play MK online!
ReplyDeleteGood post which makes an excellent argument for using different passwords and changing them regularly.
